Choosing the right food after a workout is crucial in order to achieve the wanted effects whether that is gaining mass, or just defining your muscle. Choosing the wrong food will have serious negative effects on your body and muscles. While you’re working out, the body consumes almost all of the glycogen from the muscles. Otherwise said glycogen is the “fuel” which is being created after you consume carbohydrates, and it gives you energy.
After the workout is done, your glycogen levels are low and your muscles are damaged. The right choice of food can help your muscles get better faster. If you choose the wrong food, which is being processed and full of fat, artificial sweeteners and refined sugars, fiber rich it can only obstruct the digestion and delay the muscle recovery process.
Avoid these foods after a workout:
Red meat – Read meat belongs to the group of meat which is being digested hardly and slowly. This is the reason of being #1 of the list. High fat meat affects your arteries and is definitely not a recommended protein source.
Eggs – Although you can often hear that eggs are good to eat if you are working out, it is definitely not a good choice to be eaten after a workout. One egg has 6 grams of fat. One egg and two egg whites might be consumed, but nothing more than that.
White bread – Not only after a workout, but you should completely stop eating white bread because of the fact that it is full of simple carbohydrates that your body does not need because they increase the sugar levels in our body. Make a toast or eat black bread instead.
Chocolate – Definitely one of the common misconceptions is eating a chocolate after a workout to recover the lost energy. Eat a chocolate bar throughout the day or before you start working out.
